چکیده
INTRODUCTION 4 This subject, Urban Wet-Weather Flows, was comprised of three basic subareas – combined-sewer 5 overflows (CSOs), sanitary-sewer overflows (SSOs), and stormwater discharges. Major proceedings 6 related to wet-weather flow (WWF) published during 2000 were the following: (1) ASCE EWRI 7 Conference – Bridging the Gap: Meeting the World’s Water and Environmental Resources Challenges 8 (ASCE, 2001); (2) WEFTEC 2001, 74th Annual Conference and Exposition (WEF, 2001); (3) 5 9 International Conference: Diffuse/Nonpoint Pollution and Watershed Management (IWA, 2001); (4) 10 Models and Applications to Urban Water Systems, Monograph 9 (CHI, 2001); (5) 2001 A Collection 11 Systems Odyssey: Integrating O&M and Wet Weather Solutions (WEF, 2001); (6) 7 Annual Industrial 12 Wastes Technical and Regulatory Conference (WEF, 2001); and (7) Proceedings of the Third 13 International Conference on Watershed Management (ASCE, 2001). 14

Biomonitoring of wet-weather flow impacts on fine sediments in urban waters: Canadian and French experience
Benthic invertebrate assessments can be used to gauge the impact of urban wetweather flows in receiving waters. Experiences from Cemagref in France have shown that standardized benthic indices (e.g. Oligochaete Index of Sediment Bioindication IOBS) can be used to reliably determine the ecological status of urban streams and can be incorporated into the new European Water Framework Directive. Th...
متن کاملBiocides in urban wastewater treatment plant influent at dry and wet weather: concentrations, mass flows and possible sources.
In recent years, exterior thermal insulation systems became more and more important leading to an increasing amount of houses equipped with biocide-containing organic façade coatings or fungicide treated wood. It is known that these biocides, e.g. terbutryn, carbendazim, and diuron, as well as wood preservatives as propiconazole, leach out of the material through contact with wind driven rain. ...
متن کاملSmall drains, big problems: the impact of dry weather runoff on shoreline water quality at enclosed beaches.
Enclosed beaches along urban coastlines are frequent hot spots of fecal indicator bacteria (FIB) pollution. In this paper we present field measurements and modeling studies aimed at evaluating the impact of small storm drains on FIB pollution at enclosed beaches in Newport Bay, the second largest tidal embayment in Southern California. Our results suggest that small drains have a disproportiona...
متن کاملVariability of E. coli density and sources in an urban watershed.
The objective of this study was to characterize the variability of Escherichia coli density and sources in an urban watershed, particularly to focus on the influences of weather and land use. E. coli as a microbial indicator was measured at fourteen sites in four wet weather events and four dry weather conditions in the upper Blackstone River watershed. The sources of E. coli were identified by...
متن کاملPotential Human Health Effects Associated with Urban Wet Weather Flows
High concentrations of likely pathogens and indicator organisms found in urban receiving waters is a common cause of concern. Large amounts of resources are spent attempting to identify and correct their source, while many question the actual public health concerns associated with exposure to these organisms. This paper contains a summary of the historical development of the U.S. water quality ...
